For nearly 20 years, Brain Canada has been transforming brain research in Canada. Our founders were a group of business and science leaders who had a bold vision—to increase the scale of funding for research and to change the way of doing research.
Since our founding in 1998, Brain Canada has invested over $250M directly into brain research. We have awarded 281 grants to date to more than 1000 researchers across Canada.
The research we have funded to date has led to 764 publications in scientific journals, which have been cited more than 14,500 times. Each publication represents a breakthrough, and each citation a validation of the contribution of that discovery to our knowledge.
Because research is a long-term process, it is more difficult to show a clear path to outcomes that are the direct result of a donation. That said, every discovery along the path to a cure carries the potential to improve lives, and in our Annual Reports and Research Stories, we highlight those projects that have had important breakthroughs and advances. In addition, our website contains a directory where one can search by researcher, province, type of research, and program and learn about the specific grants being funded.
