Brain Canada and The Cancer Research Society (CRS) are funding two new recipients of The Doctoral Research Awards program in the field of brain cancer research. Rifat Sajid from University Health Network and Katherine Wade-Alonso from The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) will each be receiving an award of $70,000 over a period of two years.

I am deeply grateful to the Brain Canada Foundation and Cancer Research Society for their generous support of my project and career in cancer research. I feel incredibly honoured to have received this recognition, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the donors that made this award possible. Through this scholarship, I have the opportunity to conduct research that aims to improve the lives of patients with glioblastoma, a deadly disease for which there are currently no effective treatments.

– Rifat Sajid, University Health Network

This program is part of Brain Canada and CRS’ efforts to fund research projects that contribute to a better understanding of cancer, and to improve prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.

This year, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) will be funding a total of 40 recipients of this second edition of its Doctoral Research Awards program.

Supporting these young promising talents is a priority for us, as their research directly advances knowledge about cancer. Through their innovative ideas and bold approaches, they will drive the scientific breakthroughs of tomorrow, providing concrete solutions to this disease that affects so many lives.

– Dajan O’Donnell, Director, Scientific Affairs and Partnerships of the CRS
