Precision Metabolism: Deciphering and Targeting Metabolic Adaptations in Therapy-Resistant Recurrent Glioblastoma
Project Overview
Glioblastoma (GBM) is a common and deadly brain cancer in adults. Doctors use strong medicine (chemotherapy) and special rays (radiation therapy) to treat it. However, 80-90% of patients see the cancer come back, and the usual treatments don’t work anymore. This project aims to find out why GBM comes back and create ways to help patients survive longer. Using models simulating therapy-resistant recurrent tumors, we expose small cells to the same doses of radiation and chemotherapy that patients get, both in a dish and in mice with brain tumors, to study the changes that occur. By identifying changes in resistant tumors, we plan to use drugs that can reach the brain to stop GBM from coming back. This research could help us improve treatments options for GBM, giving patients a better chance at survival.
