The effects of intensity and volume of physical activity on cerebrovascular health in women across the menopausal transition
Project Overview
Our research project will investigate the relationship between physical activity and brain vascular health in women. The term vascular brain health refers to the health of blood vessels within the brain. To measure brain vascular health, we use cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) which quantifies the abilities of blood vessels to expand to bring more blood to the brain when needed. Thus, we have set three primary objectives:
1. Evaluate the effects of intensity and dose of PA on vascular brain health in women compared to men.
2. Examine how being overweight or obese affects the relationship between physical activity and brain vascular health
3. Assess the impact of menopausal status and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) on vascular brain health in women, and how it impacts the relationship between PA and brain health.
