Understanding brain development and maintenance via spatial transcriptomics

We identified changes in the gene called IRF2BPL (Interferon Regulatory Factor 2 Binding Protein Like) as the cause of a severe brain disorder in children called NEDAMSS (Neurodevelopmental disorder with abnormal movements, loss of speech and seizures).

Characterizing regional cerebral autoregulation in women with carotid stenosis and its relationship to underlying hemodynamic and metabolic function

The objective of our project is to investigate if women with carotid stenosis (CAS) have impaired cerebral blood flow (CBF) regulation in different regions of their brain.

Dynamic palmitoylation regulates TDP-43 nucleocytoplasmic transport in ALS

Common features in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) include misdirected proteins that build up over time and lead to large protein clumps that are toxic to the cell and lead to cell death.

Spatial-temporal determinants of NMJs: from genes to function

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease where motor neurons, neurons that control the muscles to generate fundamental movements in our daily life, are gradually destroyed during the disease leading to paralysis and eventually death.

Brain-heart dynamics in treatment-resistant depression and the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive neurostimulation therapy, recommended by Canadian guidelines as a first-line intervention for major depression that does not respond to an adequate course of pharmacological therapy, known as treatment-resistant depression (TRD).
