Development of oncolytic HSV- 1 to activate necroptosis induced anticancer immunity against glioblastoma

Project ongoing

Project Overview

Glioblastoma is a fatal cancer, with fewer than 10% of patients surviving five years past diagnosis and a lack of therapeutic improvements in decades. This research uses engineered oncolytic viruses that preferentially infect cancer cells as a platform to deliver a new treatment strategy. The oncolytic virus will be reprogrammed to force cancer cells to die in a way that activates the immune system. By uncovering how viral proteins interact with cell death pathways, this work will inform the development of clinically translatable immunotherapies aimed at transforming a fatal diagnosis into one with real therapeutic options.
