The University of British Columbia Genes, Cells and Circuits (UBC-GC2) platform for next-generation multiscale brain research

Project Overview

There is an urgent need for research that deepens our understanding of human brain function and uses this knowledge to accelerate therapeutic breakthroughs related to brain dysfunction. The University of British Columbia Genes, Cells, and Circuits (UBC-GC2) platform will address this challenge by uniquely integrating cutting-edge microscopy and gene-expression technologies to enhance brain research across distinct experimental settings. By providing data acquisition and interpretation services to local, national and international researchers, the platform will enable groundbreaking experimental paradigms across a variety of brain disorders and diseases. With cutting-edge technology, expert personnel, and an integrated and open approach, UBC-GC2 holds immense potential to advance fundamental neuroscience knowledge and drive breakthroughs in the discovery and development of next-generation therapeutics.

Territorial acknowledgement

The offices of Brain Canada Foundation are located on the traditional, ancestral territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka Peoples, a place which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst nations. We honour and pay respect to elders past, present and emerging, and dedicate ourselves to moving forward in the spirit of partnership, collaboration, and reconciliation. In our work, we focus our efforts on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, particularly those that pertain to improving health for Indigenous Peoples and that focus on advancing our own learning on Indigenous issues.
