The Histology Innovation Platform at McGill University is a specialized facility that helps scientists study the brain at a cellular level to better understand neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s, brain cancer, and epilepsy. Using advanced technologies, the platform allows researchers to explore how different brain cells interact and change in disease, providing critical insights into brain function and health. The platform offers services such as tissue preparation, staining, and advanced imaging, which are essential for studying how diseases affect the brain’s structure and environment. It also supports cutting-edge research using « spatial » technologies that allow scientists to map gene and protein activity within intact tissues. These tools are crucial for understanding complex processes in the brain, such as cell communication and disease progression. Located in Montreal, the platform serves a wide range of researchers in Quebec and beyond, supporting projects that aim to find new treatments, diagnostic tools, and ways to improve patient outcomes. With over two decades of experience, the platform has played a key role in numerous discoveries and continues to be a vital resource for neuroscience research. Funding from Brain Canada will allow the platform to expand its services, hire more staff, and maintain essential equipment. By supporting this platform, Brain Canada is helping to advance research that could lead to better treatments for neurological diseases, ultimately improving the health and well-being of Canadians.
