Investigating the relationship between vascular risk factors and cognitive impairment in Canadian women from ethnically diverse groups
Aperçu du projet
To obtain a more inclusive understanding of vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) in women, we will investigate the relationship between vascular health and cognition in women belonging to Canada’s three largest ethnic groups (South Asian, Chinese, and White). To do so, we will assess measures of vascular health and cognitive decline in South Asian, Chinese, and White women taking part in an ongoing study at Sunnybrook Research Institute, called the Canadian Multi-Ethnic Research on Aging
(CAMERA) study.
Our study has two aims. First, we will examine whether measures of vascular health differ across South Asian, Chinese, and White women. Based on prior research, we expect that South Asian and Chinese women will have poorer vascular health compared to White women. Next, we will examine whether measures of vascular health show similar or different relationships with measures of cognitive decline within each group. We expect that South Asian and Chinese women will show different relationships between measures of vascular health and cognitive decline compared to White women, such that measures of vascular health will be more strongly associated with cognitive decline in South Asian and Chinese women.
