Resetting Microglia Activation in Offspring Exposed to Maternal High-Fat Diet

Nutrition and diet are factors in life that contribute drastically to a person’s brain health, and overall quality of life, and high-fat diets can be considered a cause of many harmful physical and cognitive conditions. In rodent models, exposing the mother to a high-fat diet has been shown to negatively influence the conditions of brain immune cells called microglia in the offspring. The objective of this research is to examine the offspring of mothers who have been exposed to high-fat diets when microglia have been decreased and repopulated in the brain, with the goal of ‘resetting’ their state to normalize their function.
